The Lightning golf team played host to fifteen other teams on Monday and Tuesday at Hartefeld National, for the Goldey-Beacom College Spring Golf Invitational.
After 81 golfers finished a cold and the windy round one, the Lightning entered the clubhouse with a one-shot lead after shooting a 315. Freshman Tyler Harman found himself on top of the individual leader board shooting a 71 for the first day. Harman was the only golfer under par on the first day, and held three-stroke lead.
Sophomore Wes Hood was next in for the Lightning, with a 78, followed by graduate student Justin Grossman's 81. Sophomore Erik Tammsalu and senior Rob Hunt finished out Lightning scoring with 85 and 87 respectively. Playing as individuals, sophomore John Marsteller finished with an 83, while junior Matt Quigley shot 85.
With day one's cold and heavy winds behind, the sun came through and warmed up day two. The Lightning would have to work hard to stay on top as several teams would be nipping at their heals.
First in for the Lightning was Wes Hood, with a day two score of 70, the lowest score of the round, and giving him the overall individual lead of 148. Hood would later slip into a tie for second, as Brant Kummerfeld from Adelphi University squeezed in with a two-day total of 145. Tyler Harman was next for the Lightning with a two-day total of 152, placing him in a tie for 7th place. Justin Grossman's 75 placed him in a tie for 19th place, while Rob Hunt improved his score by ten strokes, for two-day total of 164. Erik Tammsalu rounded out the Lightning scoring with a day-two round of 81.
In the team standings, the Lightning slipped down to third place just strokes behind Adelphi University, the first place finisher, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the second place finisher.
Matt Quigley and John Marsteller finished their individual rounds with a 169 and 172 total respectively.
The Lightning will next hit the links at the Peter King Memorial Tournament on April 5th and 6th in Long Island New York.
