Senior outfielder Shannon Graves started today's doubleheader against the Briarcliffe College Seahawks (0-2) slowly going 0-3 in her first three at-bats but was a major force to be reckoned with in her next five, going 5-5 with two doubles and a thrilling inside-the-park homerun down the left field line. The Lightning (7-4) were victorious on both ends of the Sunday matinee doubleheader this afternoon at Goldey-Beacom College winning game one 9-2 and followed up with a 6-1 win in game two.

The Lightning used a sound, consistent offensive output in game one, bullying Seahawks pitcher Jillian McGovern for 11 hits and nine earned runs. All nine of the Lightning starters recording a base hit in the first game, with Sophomore Michelle Foster leading the way. Foster reached base three times in four plate appearances for the Lightning, she completed game one with two singles, a base on balls, and a sacrifice bunt. Samantha Alonzo continued a strong freshman campaign going 2-4 at the dish with a triple and two runs batted in.

Senior pitcher Ashley Antosh earned her third win of the season with four innings of work, allowing one hit and striking out a  season-high eight batters. Senior Sadie Jones relieved Antosh after four innings giving up four hits, and two earned runs while striking out two.

Game two had much less fireworks until Graves stepped up to the plate in the fifth inning with the Lightning holding a marginal one run lead, 2-1, smashed a ball down the left field line that traveled the entire 235 feet to the left field wall. Graves hustled the entire way around the bags for her second homerun of the season. Graves didn't stop there however, the homerun added to a single and a double in her previous two at-bats. Graves stepped back to the plate in the sixth inning and thoughts of hitting for the cycle were well within reach, Graves hit a ball deep to centerfield, but decided 4-4 with two doubles and three RBIs was a pretty solid afternoon.

Senior pitcher Shannon O'Hara started on the mound for the first time this season with a solid pitching performance by any means. O'Hara threw six strong innings, allowing two hits and one run while sitting down five batters by strikeout. Veronica Peters closed out the game with one inning pitched, retiring the minimum in the seventh inning. The Lightning continue their  non-conference schedule on the road this Wednesday with a doubleheader against Lincoln University with the first game beginning at 2:30 PM.
