Another historic calendar year for Goldey-Beacom's women's tennis team meant another honor for coach Joe Kissel, who repeated as the United States Tennis Association Delaware District College Coach of the Year.

The honor will be presented during a brunch January 29 in Wilmington.

Kissel helped orchestrate yet another historical accomplishment for a squad that has been churning big wins on a consistent basis.  The one in 2016 took place October 23, when GBC captured its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title and sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament with a 5-1 triumph over Post.

The Lightning (9-0, 7-0 CACC) have recorded the best start in program history after beginning 8-0 in 2010-11.  Their league mark also is a team record and marked the first time the squad had been the top seed in the CACC Tournament.

Goldey-Beacom made news before year's end in being ranked third in the NCAA East Region poll, which eventually will help determine seeding for the NCAA Tournament.  Six teams from the East Region will go and the tournament begins May 1.

The individual region rankings see seniors Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) and Francesca Beg (Westbury, England) ranked tied for 10th in doubles, Lea Schmuecker (Marburg, Germany) 15th in singles and fellow freshman Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) 17th.

A three-time CACC Coach of the Year, Kissel
has amassed a 111-62 mark in 11 seasons.  His USTA honor in 2015 came on the heels of the Lightning going a school-record 18-5, winning an NCAA Tournament match and ending the season ranked 31st in the country.

It is Kissel's third honor from the USTA as he was picked the 2009 United States Tennis Association Middle States Delaware District Community Tennis Coach of the Year.
