6803Goldey-Beacom sophomore Shea Murphy (Wilmington, DE), a great leader, citizen and role model for the athletics community, has been named the Men's Golf winner of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Top XVI Award.

Murphy is a Sport Management major and received the honor presented "to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the CACC championships."

On the course, Murphy a season ago played in 11 tournaments and broke 80 six times.  He ended tied for 12th at the Charger Challenge, carded 74 at the Navy Fall Classic to finish tied for 25th and was tied for 25th at the Mike Bello Invitational with 157.  Murphy also shot 76 in the second round of the California Coaches Intercollegiate and in the second round of the CACC Championship.

Off the course, Murphy has been active with the department's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and helping with the expanded video production.  He also has been instrumental with helping run various social events involving athletics.  Murphy also has been taking groups of students to Hockessin Athletic Club every other Friday, helping Special Olympics competitors work on powerlifting.

"Shea has been integral in the student-athlete welfare initiatives that showcase what being a Goldey-Beacom College Lightning is all about," GBC Compliance Specialist Jeremy Benoit said.  "His tireless effort and drive will carry him a great distance in golf and the classroom and, most importantly, in his life and career after he's done leaving his mark on the College."

Murphy is the fourth Goldey-Beacom student-athlete to earn this award since its creation in 2013-14.  Jabari Chambers from men's cross country won in the fall of 2013, Patrick McRae from men's golf took it home in the spring of 2015 and Nina Sengl was so honored in the fall of 2015.  McRae and Sengl went on to become CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
