In what has been an amazing campaign for Goldey-Beacom's men's basketball squad, junior guard Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and senior forward Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) was tabbed third team all-league.

Taite simply has been the catalyst for the Lightning in every facet.  His playmaking, scoring, defense and overall team play have been the major reasons Goldey-Beacom is the champion of the CACC South Division for the third time in team history and first since 2012.

Among the national leaders practically all season, Taite is 62nd in the country with 19.3 points per game, 14th with 61 steals, 21st with 145 free throws, 25th with 2.18 steals per contest, 71st with 976 minutes and 84th with 34.9 minutes per game.

The 2016 member of the City of Basketball Love All-Rookie Team is fifth in team history with 1,195 career points, second with 305 free throws, fourth with 261 assists, fourth with 142 three-pointers, fifth with 161 steals and fifth with 374 baskets.  Taite also is third in team history with 540 single-season points and third with 145 single-season free throws.

Taite also is the first in team history to be named CACC Player of the Year.

Thompson also has been a vital role in the team's success.  His intense play in the paint and solid rebounding not to mention his thunderous dunks all have been critical for the Lightning this season.

Thompson is 81st in the nation with 8.1 rebounds per game, 87th with 218 rebounds, 27th in the league with 12.7 points per contest and 15th with 81 free throws.  He has scored in double figures 21 times this season, has notched five double-doubles is 19th in team history with 686 career points and sixth with 397 career rebounds.

Also getting it done on the national stage, the Lightning are third in the country with 19.71 forced turnovers per game, sixth with 271 steals, sixth with 9.7 steals per game and sixth with a 4.8 turnover margin.

Goldey-Beacom (19-9, 15-4 CACC) has won 10 of its last 11 contests and looks to get back-to-back 20-win seasons for the second time in program history (2009-10, 2010-11).

GBC is home Tuesday against Felician in the quarterfinals of the CACC Tournament.  Game time is 7:00 pm.
