Goldey-Beacom's dedication to community service and overall comradery were recognized in being presented the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's Softball Team Sportsmanship Award for the second time in the last three years.

The squad for a third straight season participated in collecting turkeys and assembling food baskets for the New Castle (DE) County EMS Division Paramedics.  The team took to the Wilmington organization just before Thanksgiving to help cheer up needy families and provide gifts for those underprivileged in the county.

The Lightning last December also took part in Toys for Tots.  The squad had several boxes placed around campus seeking donations and it received plenty of unwrapped toys that went to the charity celebrating its 70th year.

Several players from this year's team were here in October 2015 when the school participated in the Halloween 5K, which helped raise money for breast-cancer research.  As a result, Goldey-Beacom was named the CACC representative and one of 25 finalists for the NCAA Division II Award of Excellence.

The team in the 2014-15 academic year also helped in community service at the Ronald McDonald House in Wilmington.

The softball unit is the second for Goldey-Beacom to win their sport's league Sportsmanship Award this academic year.  The men's cross country team captured it last fall.
