To begin our Where Are They Now alumni series, we highlight the outstanding career of former two-sport student-athlete Tanner Turner-Rush and what she was able to achieve at Goldey-Beacom College.

Tanner accomplished so much during her career here, from being named to the Fall and Winter Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Academic Honor Rolls to her sophomore year receiving the Brian Conley Award for her perseverance and dedication after battling back from injury.

Tanner has come to embody the standard of which student-athletes can emulate for her determination and overall character as a person. Some of Tanner's career highlights include: Goldey-Beacom's nominee for 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year, second team All-CACC in 2017 for women's soccer, three-time member of the CACC Academic Honor Roll, leading the women's soccer team to four CACC Tournament berths, including the 2014 semifinals, and being a starter in all 72 games she played.

In her women's basketball career, Tanner graduated fourth in school history with 158 three-pointers, sixth with 140 steals, seventh with a .761 free throw percentage, 10th with 949 points, 10th with 511 rebounds and 10th with 343 field goals. She led the team to two CACC Tournament berths, including the 2019 semifinals by virtue of Goldey-Beacom's upset of North Division champion Dominican (NY) in the quarterfinals.

Tanner took her collegiate career to the next level when she decided to pursue her Master's in Finance. When asked why she chose to obtain an advanced degree she replied, "GBC provided affordability, flexibility and the overall size of the college fit what I had been used to during my undergrad.  I understood the importance of having that additional degree and with the flexibility of classes while finishing out my basketball eligibility, having professors who understood my schedule was great."

For incoming students who are having a difficult time deciding what they want to pursue their undergrad in, Tanner's advice is to "utilize your upperclassmen, coaches, faculty and staff as they are phenomenal resources.  More importantly, get to know yourself as a person, discover what interests you most and align yourself with courses that tailor to and expand your knowledge.  These are just some things you can do to be proactive in your pursuit of a fulfilling career."

GBC provides excellent resources for students who are seeking to start their professional careers post-graduation.  For Tanner, she felt that she was prepared for the real world.  "Being a student-athlete and being part of a team helped me develop certain qualities in me like accountability, leadership and integrity which helped me become the person I wanted to embody when I did enter the world to seek a job."

In her personal life, she has recently got engaged to Jarrel Lane, GBC's Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach and alum.  She added "We recently built and closed on our first home in Middletown, DE, to which we are so incredibility proud of."

Tanner works for America's oldest electrical and construction company, Hatzel & Buehler Inc., as a Staff Accountant in its corporate office.  "I am enjoying life and everything it has to offer and am truly looking forward to seeing GBC progress and evolve into the remarkable college I know it to be."
