The virtual world has been embraced by many and included among this group is the Goldey-Beacom College Athletics Department, which recently honored its seniors by holding a ceremony through Zoom to thank these student-athletes for their contributions.
Under normal circumstances, this ceremony is held in person and attended by many dignitaries within the College's Administration.
This year's virtual encounter was led by Associate Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit and featured a welcome from first-year President Dr. Colleen Perry Keith, who honored the College's latest group of alums. Dr. Keith's abundance of enthusiasm for Athletics has been apparent since her arrival on campus, as well as her knowledge of how things are successfully run within the college environment. The College looks forward to bigger and better things during her tenure.
"Graduation is a special moment in the life of an individual and family," Goldey-Beacom Director of Athletics Dr. Thomas Brennan said. "Needless to say, our celebration this year was anything but normal. But what a special group; and it was so important to connect with our student athletes, at this time, to be sure they recognize just how proud we are of them and to emphasize that GBC will always be there for them. Thanks to the coaches, athletic and college staff that joined us on Saturday, May 2, 2020. It promises to be a day we will all remember."
Others who took time to join our celebration included Dean of Students Chuck Hammond, Director of Career Services Beth Kirker, Director of External Affairs Janine Sorbello, Director of Alumni Affairs Maureen Tomey and Alumni Board Member Patrick McRae. McRae, who in 2015 with the Golf team became the College's first CoSIDA Academic All-America, offered his special perspective and welcomed the graduates into their new role as an alumni athlete.
The senior gift, a knitted blanket with the name and sport, will find its way to each student-athlete in the near future.
This year's senior class includes 41 student-athletes across twelve rosters. Among them are:
- The first four-year Baseball student-athletes
