Goldey-Beacom's Department of Athletics had plenty of presence in the College's TEDx talk September 18, which focused on Sports Psychology.

The talk was held at the 76ers Fieldhouse in Wilmington and was organized by Dr. Dan Young, Director of Goldey-Beacom's Doctor of Business Administration program.

The Athletics department was represented by Associate Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit (picture above), who discussed the importance of having difficult conversations. "As we continue to find ourselves in a tumultuous time in our nation's history, perfecting the art of the difficult conversation and learning how to grow as a result is something in which I think we can all find some utility" Benoit said.

Tedex20-3netThree others with ties to GBC Athletics also had a hand on the mic.  Cross country/track & field senior Jono Hooper (Brisbane, Australia) spoke on the challenges of being an international student-athlete; women's soccer senior Kiera Young (Havre de Grace, MD) delivered a talk entitled, "The Untold Truth of Being A Student-Athlete"; and former cross country runner Ronald "Tre" Prescott (Middletown, DE) tackled the important topic of self-awareness.

Tedex20-4net"TEDxGBC is one way to create networking and professional development to GBC staff and students, as well as to extend the Goldey-Beacom College brand internationally to those who follow TED," Young said.  "TED is one of the most respected and revered brands in the world and it stands of innovation, intelligence and creativity.  These attributes mirror the ones that I try to bring to GBC through the Doctor of Business Administration Program so creating TEDx events has been critical to promote my educational mission."

Benoit, in his sixth year with the Lightning, has provided a great deal of insightfulness and enthusiasm to the department and the College.  His experience in all three divisions of collegiate athletics, along with recognition for hard work and dedication has helped him become one of the most highly regarded and well liked people both in the department and on campus.

Tedex20-2netBenoit in January 2019 was elevated to Associate AD after his promotion in December 2016 to Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance and Operations.  He also serves as the Title IX Deputy Coordinator for the College and an adjunct professor of Sport Management.

He also has done extensive work with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as well as with GBC Cares, the department's community service arm.  Part of that community service has featured extensive work at The Summit, interviewing veterans at the nearby retirement home discuss their life in the military and the fight they endured for our freedom.  The project, Veterans of The Summit: Stories of Service, is a finalist for the NCAA Division II Award of Excellence.
