Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD), who put forth an incredible five-year run for Goldey-Beacom's softball team, has the honor of being the College's selection for NCAA Woman of the Year.
She now goes into the pool of other nominees from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and the league will decide which student-athlete goes forward to the national committee. The NCAA, usually in August, announces the conference winners.
Goshorn was one of the Lightning's most reliable student-athletes and gave the squad stability at first base. Always among the league's elite, she graduates tied for seventh in team history with five career home runs, tied for 10th with 70 RBI, tied for 17th with 126 hits and 18th outright with a .320 batting average.
Among the biggest criteria for this award is community service and Goshorn certainly displays that. During her time in Pike Creek, she was part of the team's volunteer effort during the Thanksgiving collection for the New Castle (DE) County EMS Division Paramedics. She and her teammates assisted others in collecting turkeys and assembling food baskets, which were given to needy families in the county.
Prior to her collegiate days, her community service included Trunk or Treat, Relay for Life and assisting both at summer camps and emergency homeless shelters.
