11/16/2022 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's soccer teams continued their academic success with nine of their student-athletes named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District.

As announced by the organization of sports information directors formerly known as CoSIDA, six for the Lightning were honored in women's soccer and three were cited for men's soccer.  The women's side included sophomores Alexa Pacheco (Santo Domingo, PR), Alyssa Petulla (Sicklerville, NJ), Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ), Lexi Coppola (Turnersville, NJ), Bella Davidoski (Turnersville, NJ) and Jenna Campagna (Middletown, DE).  The men's unit included sophomores Patrick Short (Georgetown, DE), Cameron Michalak (Elkton, MD) and Alex Alquier (Stockholm, Sweden).

Pacheco started all 18 games for the Lightning and was a beyond valuable member of the defense, who can be largely credited with the team's overall play in helping lead the backline and helping the midfielders do their job.  She was a key member of a defense which recorded six shutouts and five other games in which it did not permit more than one goal.

Petulla also was a vital member of that defense, playing in all 18 games with 17 starts.  She recorded an assist on Goldey-Beacom's goal in the 89th minute, leading the squad to a massive 1-1 tie October 20 vs. Holy Family.

Lowry, a two-sport athlete who also excels with the softball team, made a huge impact in all facets of the game in starting all 18 matches.  She is ninth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with seven goals, 11th with 18 points and 13th with four assists.

Coppola also was a key player on defense in starting all 16 games and had an assist October 11 vs. Chestnut Hill.  Davidoski played in 16 games and recorded a goal with Campagna seeing action in 12 games, scoring twice.

All of this helped Goldey-Beacom (9-8-1, 7-4-1 CACC) get back in the CACC Tournament for a school-record eighth straight competitive year.  The Lightning also ended the regular season 10th in the NCAA East Regional Rankings, a major criteria for selecting at-large teams into the NCAA Tournament.

Short's value to the team goes well beyond any statistic.  An explosive dynamo both at midfield and forward, he possesses all the tools to make the team better and is one of multiple players who gives his all every game in continuing to help better the program.  Short is 24th in the conference with four goals, 28th with 10 points and 33rd with two assists.

Michalak saw action in 15 games this season with eight starts and Alquier played in 12 games with four starts.

The squad at the season's conclusion was presented the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award, as voted on by the league's coaches.
