Goldey-Beacom Owns the Leads in the CACC Men’s Sportsmanship Standings

12/12/2022 12:00:00 AM

With the fall season in the books for the 2022-23 academic year, Goldey-Beacom has the lead in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Sportsmanship Standings.

The standings are determined based on an average of the points accumulated for each sport divided by the number of teams for that gender.  Goldey-Beacom owns a 19.5 average, followed by Alliance at 16.0.

"Sportsmanship is one of the many things in which we expect our student-athletes to excel as a member of the Lightning Family," Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit said. "This is mainly because sportsmanship is one of the only things in sports over which you have complete control. In a perfect world, you're able to out-compete the rest of the conference in sportsmanship and championship… and we've been lucky enough to win in both areas this fall."

This lead was buoyed by the Men's Soccer team winning the conference's Sportsmanship Award, which is voted on by the league's coaches of that sport.

The squad continued to show drastic improvement during the 2022 campaign, sporting a team that only has been together fewer than two seasons.  The team only had two seniors and has plenty of optimism going into 2023.

That optimism includes the play of sophomore Patrick Short (Georgetown, DE), who has been an explosive dynamo both at midfield and forward.  A solid player with all of the tools to make the team better, he was one of multiple players who gave his all every game and continues to help better the program.

Short ended 24th in the CACC with four goals, 28th with 10 points and 33rd with two assists.

Another solid player is freshman goalkeeper Oscar Tengmark (Varnamo, Sweden), who took over the number one and held it the entire season.  Showing great control of the defense, he played a huge role working with the young squad in improving all facets of the game.

Tengmark closed fourth in the league with 83 saves and sixth with 1,440 minutes.
