Athletics Well Represented on the College’s President’s and Dean’s List

2/21/2022 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom College's continued production of well-rounded student-athletes was further displayed with the announcement that a combined 48 student-athletes were named to the President's List and the Dean's List.

The President's List features 22 student-athletes who during the Fall 2021 semester achieved a grade point average ranging from 3.85-4.0.  The Dean's List had 26 student-athletes who amassed a 3.6-3.849 GPA.

"Being named to a Dean's List or President's List is no small achievement, and generally these honors go to the top 2-3 percent of students at Goldey-Beacom College," Goldey-Beacom President Dr. Colleen Perry Keith said in the College's press release.  "I'm proud of each student's hard work and dedication to their studies and the many other things that pull on their time: work, family, extracurricular activities and unexpected interruptions to their day.  Students juggle it all in impressive ways, and it's a true honor for us at GBC to share the list of distinguished students who have demonstrated excellence at such a high level."

Overall, 83 students from the College made the President's List and 94 students earned a spot on the Dean's List.  Semester honors are awarded at the end of each academic term to recognize a full-time, undergraduate student's academic achievement during a specific timeframe.

These recipients were honored in a campus reception February 17, when the College's administration, faculty and staff will be present to congratulate these students and celebrate their achievements.

"There is a rich tradition of academic success for student-athletes at Goldey-Beacom," Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit said. "Consistent with many NCAA institutions, student-athletes tend to have higher rates of academic success and persistence than their non-student-athlete counterparts.  At GBC, in addition to the student-athletes' hard work, some portion of the credit should be afforded to the tireless recruiting efforts of our coaching staffs and the tremendous academic support model that has been created in our department behind our Associate AD for Academic Success, Bethann Burke."

"The athletic department is very proud of our student-athlete's academic success," Burke said.  "It is truly a testament to the hard work our student-athletes put in and the support they received from the faculty.

The academic support model Benoit mentions includes several important factors, with the most recent addition being Academic Intervention Coach Tim Griffiths.  This position was created to give more individualized attention to academically at-risk student-athletes across all 13 rosters and to address critical topics like time management, study skills, student-professor communication and attention to detail.

Goldey-Beacom in 2020-21 saw 45 of its student-athletes picked for a Division II Academic Achievement Award by the Athletic Director Association and to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Academic Honor Roll for having at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
