Cross Country Holds Its Own Against Division I Foes at the Delaware Invitational

Both of Goldey-Beacom's Cross Country squads went against multiple Division I teams and produced strong showings with each closing fourth at the Delaware Invitational in Newark, DE.
 
The women's side was fourth with 140 points, besting such Division I teams like Temple and Coppin State.
 
Junior Ny'jashia Smith (Newark, DE), coming off a seventh-place showing from two weeks ago at the Dan Talbot Open, ended today's six-kilometer race 32nd in 26:32.2  Senior Kamillah Monroque was 34th in 27:24.2, Madelynn Cool (Smyrna, DE) ended 39th in 27:57.8, fellow junior Maddie Minnick (Wilmington, DE) finished 44th in 28:27.0 and sophomore Haley Schofield (Wilmington, DE) was 51st in 29:51.6.
 
The men also ended fourth, finishing with 93 points to upend Coppin State.
 
Senior Zach Landvik-Larsen (Stroudsburg, PA) was 23rd over eight kilometers in 28:25.9, two weeks after ending second at Rose Tree Park.  Freshman John Ferry (Rising Sun, MD) closed 24th in 28:31.8, Kyle Scherer (Wilmington, DE) ended 29th in 29:33.0, fellow senior Chris Crossen (Magnolia, DE) finished 31st in 29:43.2 and junior Yusef Shakur (Townsend, MD) was 48th in 32:27.7.
 
It was the Lightning's final race before the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships, which will be on October 22 at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.  The women begin at 9:00 am and the men go at 10:00 am.
