Women’s Tennis Sees Two CACC Weekly Honorees

Goldey-Beacom's continued ascent in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference received two more big boosts with junior Zehra Canbaz (Denizli, Turkiye) named the Women's Tennis Player of the Week and freshman Sofia Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) tabbed the sport's Rookie of the Week.
 
Canbaz went 2-0 in Goldey-Beacom's 7-0 win Saturday at Post.  She got a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 triumph at first singles over Megan Lombart and teamed with junior Nahomi Quinonez (Manta, Ecuador) at No. 2 doubles for a 6-2 victory.
 
Canbaz has been paired with Quinonez all season and the two have been dynamos, recording a 4-1 mark that includes a win over perennial-power Wilmington.  Canbaz was 2-2 at second singles before playing Saturday at No. 1.
 
Lopez went 2-0 Saturday at Post.  She notched a 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth singles vs. Nina Langenfeld and paired with senior Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine) at No. 1 doubles for a 6-0 victory.
 
A beyond-welcomed addition who has given the squad a massive boost, Lopez is 5-0 this year at singles with four of the wins in straight sets.  She and Mova are a combined 4-1, which have helped GBC win the doubles point in four of its five matches.
 
Goldey-Beacom (4-1, 3-1 CACC) is tied for second place in the CACC entering Tuesday's play.  Tuesday will see GBC host Dominican (NY) for a 2:00 pm match at Delcastle Tennis Center.
