12/23/2024 12:00:00 AM

More solid basketball from Goldey-Beacom saw more awards from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with senior Julie Kulesza (Wilmington, DE) named the league's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, freshman Lydia Betz (Pittsburgh, PA) tabbed the Rookie of the Week and sophomore Zakari McQueen (Petersburg, VA) selected to the Men's Weekly Honor Roll.

It is the second consecutive week Kulesza has been so honored, in addition to twice making the league's Weekly Honor Roll.  For McQueen, it is the second time this month he has been named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Kulesza averaged 20.5 points and 9.0 rebounds over two games with five assists and three steals.  She poured in a career-best 31 points on 12-of-21 shooting with 10 rebounds December 18 in Goldey-Beacom's 72-69 victory at Saint Thomas Aquinas.  Kulesza also had 10 points three days later in her squad's 75-67 win over American International.

In her one season for GBC after playing the first three for Bucknell, Kulesza has provided incredible play on both ends of the court.  She is sixth in the league with 15.5 points per game, fifth with an .833 free throw percentage, seventh with a 4.62 field goal percentage, 16th with 2.5 rebounds per contest and 23rd with 5.5 rebounds per game.

Kulesza also had three first team all-state appearances for the Conrad School of Sciences, which she helped win the Delaware state championship for in 2018.

Betz averaged 7.0 points and 6.5 rebounds over two games.  She scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting with four rebounds against American International.

Betz has become a more integral part of the offense in recent weeks with strong post play.  She has started the last seven contests, beginning against nationally ranked Jefferson, and scored eight points December 7 versus Wilmington (DE).

McQueen averaged 22.0 points to go with 12 three-pointers, six rebounds, four steals and four blocks.  He scored 24 points December 18 at Molloy before notching 20 points four days later vs. Adelphi.  McQueen knocked down six 3-pointers in each contest.

A key player in the continued success of the program, McQueen is 15th in the league with 13.5 points per game and first with 3.2 three-pointers per game.  He has scored at least 20 points in three of his last five contests.

The women's team on January 2 is at Staten Island for a 4:00 pm contest.  Two days later, both teams are home against Bloomfield with the women playing at 1:00 pm and the men going at 3:00 pm.
