Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Stockton Invitational

Goldey-Beacom headed to Stockton, NJ after a short hiatus to compete in its first outdoor meet of the season, the Stockton Invitational, and saw strong finishes all around.
 
In the women's 100-meter dash, Lightning runners freshman Tania Alfaro and junior Karla Chardon (Penns Grove, NJ) took the top spots. Alfaro, who has shown her talent since her first meet, took the top sport with a time of 12.97, and Chardon followed just behind in second with a time of 13.18.
 
Freshman Wana Jones (Linwood, PA) closed out the runners in the dash with a time of 13.58 to place sixth. The solo Lightning runner in the 200-meter dash, Alfaro notched fourth place with a time of 27.45.
 
Senior Kamillah Monroque worked her way to a third-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.38. In the 400-meter hurdles, junior Ny'jashia Smith (Newark, DE) placed fifth with a time of 1:12.34, beating out sixth by .20 seconds. Junior Maddie Minnick (Wilmington, DE) ran 11:46.55 in the 3000-meters to place seventh and close out the track events for the women's side.
 
In the field, senior Damia White (Bridgeton, NJ), and sophomores Madison McGowan (Bristow, VA) and sophomore Megan Francis (Phoenix, AZ) placed ninth, 10th and 11th respectively in the hammer throw with distances of 23.94m, 21.58m, and 13.89m.
 
Continuing the success from her previous years, Chardon saw a second-place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 38.94m, less than a meter behind first place. Senior Aaliyah Powell (Pittsgrove, NJ) and Francis placed 12th and 13th with distances of 17.83m and 11.81m.
 
With five throwers in the shot put, McGowan led the way with a distance of 10.33m for a fifth-place finish. Finishing eighth to 11th, White threw 8.68m, Powell threw 7.20m, Francis threw 6.99m, and sophomore Megan Chesser (Grove City, OH) threw 6.94m in her first collegiate meet.
 
White in the discus throw led the Lightning with a sixth-place finish with a distance of 28.52m. McGowan followed in eighth with a best throw of 25.33. Francis and Chesser placed 12th and 13th respectively with 16.86m and 16.06m.
 
Junior Savannah Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) saw an impressive high jump finish, placing fourth with a best of 1.47m to close out the women's events.
 
On the men's side, the Lightning dominated the 200-meter dash, notching four of the top five places. Senior Ashwin Jood (Pretoria, South Africa), showing why he is ranked third overall in the nation for 200-meters, continues to dominate at every meet he competes at, taking first place with a time of 20.96.
 
Junior Dev Napier (Hagerstown, MD) secured second place with a time of 22.01, just ahead of freshman Ke'nai Massiah (Elkins Park, PA), who ran 22.10 to place third. Sophomore Kedar Reid (Bear, DE) closed the Lightning runners with a fifth-place finish with a time of 22.79. Reid, in the 400-meters, ran an exciting race, placing third with a time of 51.69, just behind second by .55 seconds.
 
The Lightning was also a force to be reckoned with in the 100-meters, taking all top five finishes. Jood came across the line in 10.52 to secure first place, Napier ran 10.77 for second place, and  Massiah took third place with a time of 10.89. Sophomore Xachary Tucker (Middletown, DE) ran 11.19 to place fourth, and junior A'mair Buffaloe (Prospect Park, NJ) placed fifth with a time of 11.32.
 
Other runners in the 400-meters, freshman Chris Robinson (Philadelphia, PA), junior Shamar Myers (Elkridge, MD), and freshman Brian Hamilton finished sixth, eighth and 16th with times of 52.82, 53.09, and 57.51.
 
In the 1500-meters, seniors Zach Landvik-Larsen (Stroudsburg, PA) and Kyle Scherer (Wilmington, DE) ran solid races to place third and fourth with times of 4:18.77 and 4:19.84, and freshman Jason Stumpfs placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 20.30. Stumpfs also saw an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.99, behind freshman Zach Phy (Lancaster, PA) who secured third place with a time of 1:01.56.
 
In the 800-meters, Scherer led Lightning runners in seventh place with a time of 2:05.02, and junior York Miles (Johannesburg, South Africa) followed in 10th, running 2:06.64. Freshman Jalen Wright (Wilmington, DE) and Landvik-Larsen came across the line less than a second from each other, with Wright taking 12th in 2:09.22 and Landvik-Larsen running 2:09.57 to place 13th.
 
Lightning long distance runners in the 3000-meters were led by freshman John Ferry (Rising Sun, MD), who ran a time of 9:30.75 to place ninth. Senior Chris Crossen (Magnolia, DE), junior Yusef Shakur (Townsend, DE), and freshman Felipe Henao (Bogota, Colombia) placed 11th, 12th, and 14th respectively, running times of 9:45.69, 9:50.07, and 10:47.09 to close track events.
 
In the men's field events, sophomore Jayvon Laguerre (Milford, DE) secured fourth place in the long jump, jumping 5.99m. Senior Ty Moss (Newark, NJ) and freshman Caleb Blue (West Hempstead, NY) followed in seventh and ninth place with distances of 5.11m and 5.00m. Laguerre also took joint-first in the high jump with 1.84m and Blue placed fifth with 1.64m.
 
Solo-thrower in the discus throw, sophomore Sebastien Lacroix (Hamilton, NJ) notched third place with 38.42m. In the hammer throw, Lacroix took seventh place with a distance of 35.97m, and ninth in the shot put with 11.61m.
 
This meet sets four new school records across the men's and women's sides.
 
Goldey-Beacom travels to Raleigh, NC on Thursday to compete in the Raleigh Relays. This is a three-day meet, concluding on Saturday and events starting at 9:45am on each day.
