Joodtf24-13netSenior Ashwin Jood (Pretoria, South Africa) etched himself in Goldey-Beacom Athletics lore, earning claim as the track & field program's first All-America by ending seventh in the 400-meter dash at the NCAA Championships.

Running in lane one, Jood knew exactly where he stood against the rest of the field.  While lane one is not the most desirable, he had the experience of running in his second consecutive 400-meter dash final.

Jood got off to a great start, but so did the rest of the field under ideal conditions in Emporia, KS.  He put together an outstanding finish and closed in 47.38 seconds, scoring two points for the meet and helping the Lightning close tied for 52nd in the country.

Joshua Page from Tiffin won the national championship, ending in 45.71 seconds.

Jood's trip to the final began by sprinting 46.665 seconds Thursday in his qualifying race, resulting in a tie for the eighth and ultimate spot in the final.  He and Prince Griffin from Northwest Missouri State then had a runoff Friday in which Jood won by almost a second, running in 46.75 seconds.

Joodtf24-12cropIn Goldey-Beacom's fifth competitive season, Jood was the first to compete at the NCAA Championships.  It was Jood's second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships in this event, ending sixth in 46.43 seconds for Carson-Newman University.

Jood entered the week owning the nation's fourth-best time in the 400-meter dash, racing 46.04 seconds April 12 at the Larry Ellis Invitational.  He also was 23rd in the 200-meter dash, owning a time of 20.96 seconds from March 22 at the Stockton Invitational.

Jood did a lot of winning this season, 11 times capturing first place that included twice at the CACC Championships.  He was victorious in the 200-meter dash in 21.13 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 46.77 seconds, becoming the Lightning's first to win multiple conference titles in the same year.

The conference event also was the fourth time this season Jood had multiple victories in the same meet.

Joodtf24-14cropThose points Jood produced were huge for Goldey-Beacom, which closed third at the CACC Championships for the squad's best finish in just its fifth season.  He also produced half of the Lightning's victories at the conference meet with Kosiani Dunkley (Kingston, Jamaica) winning the 800-meter run and fellow junior Dev Napier (Hagerstown, MD) taking the 100-meter dash.

Jood's efforts helped him to be named the College's Male Athlete of the Year.

This ends an outstanding 2023-24 campaign for Goldey-Beacom Athletics in which the NCAA stage continued to be a familiar one, in addition to the aforementioned.  The Men's Golf team closed ninth at the NCAA Regional, the Men's Cross Country squad ended 15th at its NCAA Regional and the Baseball team competed at the NCAA Regional for the third time in the last four years.
