Softball Gets 18 Named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete

8/6/2024 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's softball team again was a force in the classroom, seeing 18 of its student-athletes tabbed an All-America Scholar-Athlete by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for having at least a 3.5 GPA during the 2023-24 academic year.

The Lightning's list includes Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK), Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE), Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD), Devon Ellixson (Mullica Hill, NJ), McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA), Emma Friel (Coatesville, PA), Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ), Davi Jimenez (Vineland, NJ), Katie Knecht (Easton, PA), Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ), Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE), Gabriella Monzo (Northfield, NJ), Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE), Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ), Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA), Marah Schotz (Lockport, NY), Molly Skelly (Laurel Springs, NJ) and Bri Snover (Claymont, DE).

The team recorded a 3.58 GPA, placing them 42nd in the country among reporting NCAA Division II schools.

It was just another academic highlight for Goldey-Beacom, which saw Safin, Lowry, McLane, Davis, Doctor, Friel, Insigna, Jimenez, Monzo and Pelcak make the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Academic Team based on their cumulative GPA.  Bohmann, Lowry, McLane, Doctor and O'Shields comprised the squad's maximum five that were tabbed College Sports Communicators Academic All-District.

The Lightning's softball ability also was not too shabby.  Goldey-Beacom (26-28, 14-8 CACC) had yet another strong year, this time stepping up its schedule against some of the area's elite squads from outside the conference and closing with its best league mark since 2017.  The third-place showing matched the Lightning's best finish at the CACC Tournament, also accomplished in 2005.
