Softball Picked to End Third in the CACC

1/29/2025 12:00:00 AM

A resurgence last season that produced a home game in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament saw Goldey-Beacom this year picked to close third in the league based on a vote of the league's coaches.

Senior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) has been one of the Lightning's best overall student-athletes in every capacity and that last year played a huge role in her being named second team All-CACC.  Lowry a season ago closed first in the nation with 11 triples, 16th in the league with 13 stolen bases, 17th with 52 hits, 25th with 21 RBI and 30th with a .335 batting average.

Five times picked College Sports Communicators Academic All-District that includes three with Women's Soccer, Lowry is second in team history with 21 triples, third with 43 stolen bases, fifth with 91 runs, 15th with 133 hits and 23rd with a .334 batting average.  She also sports a .964 fielding percentage that two years ago was 1.000 over 103 changes.

Senior infielder Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) arrived in Pike Creek last year and immediately announced her presence, which lasted the entire season and allowed her to be picked second team All-CACC.  A solid hitter who possesses incredible power, Bohmann last year ended second in the league with a school-record 54 RBI, third with 16 doubles, fourth with a school-record eight home runs, 11th with 58 hits, 18th with a .360 batting average and sixth with 216 putouts.

Bohmann enters this season tied for fourth in team history with eight home runs.

Junior Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) in her first two seasons has provided solid infield play and has maintained a spot in the lineup, starting 101 of the squad's 109 games in that span.  A consistently solid hitter, Simpson last year ended 15th in the CACC with nine doubles, 15th with 29 RBI and 23rd with a .355 batting average.

Sophomore McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) also was a key player a season ago on the infield and solid hitting allowed her to record a team-season-high 22-game hitting streak.  Starting all 46 games she played, Frank closed third in the CACC with 16 doubles, seventh with 62 hits and 13th with a .373 batting average that has her 11th in team history.

Senior Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, MD), named first team All-CACC last fall for the Volleyball squad, enters looking to give the pitching staff a huge boost.  Named second team All-Coast-to-Coast Conference last year for Mary Washington, Burch last season had 123 strikeouts and just 21 walks over 118 innings with a .275 batting average against.

Ariana Mirenda (Reading, PA) is another senior newcomer who has a combined four all-league picks over two schools, which includes being named 2022 Atlantic East Conference Player of the Year with Cabrini.  The 2023 and 2024 first team All-AEC selection with Cabrini and 2021 second team All-AEC pick with Wesley hit .409 over her three seasons at Cabrini with 143 hits and 47 RBI.

Goldey-Beacom (26-28, 14-8 CACC) last season had yet another strong year, stepping up its schedule against some of the area's elite squads from outside the conference and closing with its best league mark since 2017.  This also resulted in what is believed to be the first home conference tournament game in program history.

The third-place showing matched the Lightning's best finish at the CACC Tournament, also accomplished in 2005.

Goldey-Beacom opens its season February 8 at home against Millersville.
