Goldey-Beacom College Department of Athletics Announces Eighth Hall of Fame Class; NovaCare Will Serve as the Title Sponsor for the Brunch and Induction Ceremony

3/31/2025 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom is ecstatic to announce the College's eighth Athletics Hall of Fame Class will include Kadi McCoy from volleyball, coach Jim Mahoney from golf and the 2002 men's soccer team.

"This is another tremendous addition to our GBC Athletics Hall of Fame," Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit said.  "We have some true groundbreakers in this class and I'm thrilled to be able to invite them back to campus to celebrate their accomplishments while also showing them how far the College has come as a result of their individual and collective contributions."

The Goldey-Beacom Athletics Hall of Fame Brunch and Induction Ceremony Presented by NovaCare will take place Sunday, October 5 as part of the College's Homecoming and Lightning Family Weekend.  The weekend's events from October 3-5 include opportunities for alums to come back on campus to reunite with many friends and also see the many changes that many who continue to be part of the family help ignite.  It also will give an opportunity for parents to come on campus and spend time with their kids as part of an atmosphere filled with festivities and fun.

McCoy left an indelible mark on the volleyball program with her powerful hitting and durability that made her a standout competitor over four years.  The outside hitter's final season in 2014 was a memorable one in which she was tabbed second team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, second team All-East Region and recorded 10 double-doubles that included four late in the year.

One of the program's all-time elite players, she graduated first in team history with 1,412 kills, sixth with 1,045 digs and sixth with 124 aces.  She remains the only player in Lightning annals to record at least 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.

McCoy in 2011 and 2012 also was picked Honorable Mention All-CACC.

Mahoney served five years as golf coach and took the department to heights not seen since becoming an NCAA member.  The 2005-06 squad remains one of the College's best stories as it was under Mahoney's leadership in which the unit won the NCAA East Regional championship, becoming the first team in school history in any sport to win an NCAA Tournament event.

That team is enshrined in the GBC Athletics Hall of Fame and the CACC Hall of Fame.

The 2002 CACC Coach of the Year, Mahoney led Goldey-Beacom to three conference titles (2003-05) and coached 12 All-CACC selections in addition to one NAIA All-Region pick.

While the golf team made NCAA history for GBC, the 2002 men's soccer squad was the first overall squad to make history in Pike Creek.  The Lightning that year advanced to the 16-team NAIA Tournament, marking the first team appearance by the College in a national championship tournament.   The squad won the NAIA Independent Region Tournament before defeating Maine-Fort Kent and Green Mountain to win the Region X Tournament.

It remains the furthest a Goldey-Beacom squad has advanced in a national tournament, which was duplicated by the 2018-19 women's tennis team that played in the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Tournament.

The 2002 unit ended that season 16-7 overall and included Goldey-Beacom Athletics Hall of Famers Jason McCloskey (2017), Matt DiGiacobbe (2022) and Dan DiGiacobbe (2022).  The team won the CACC regular-season title, but was ineligible for the conference tournament as it still competed on the NAIA level.
