Goldey-Beacom's baseball squad for a second straight year has been presented the Team Academic Excellence Award by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

The award is given to teams who record at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

The Lightning this season got six of their student-athletes on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Academic Honor Roll, one year after placing five in their first eligible season. This year saw juniors Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) and Jake Kinsell (Carmichaels, PA) each make the list a second time with senior Jake Trejo (Wauseon, OH), Trevor Jump (Wilmington, DE), fellow sophomore Mitch Guerrieri (Greentown, PA) and senior Tre Wilson (Lancaster, PA) each getting an initial appearance on the ledger.

Among the highlights in this group, Trejo lowered the curtain on his collegiate career in solid fashion by closing 16th in the CACC with 46 strikeouts, 14th with four wins and 20th with 6.34 strikeouts per nine innings. Collins played in 39 games with 35 starts, ending second on the team with 159 putouts and tied for fourth with seven doubles.

Goldey-Beacom this season battled through a slew of injuries and a competitive CACC South Division to go into the last weekend of the season contenders to make the conference tournament. GBC twice defeated then No. 21 and eventual CACC-champion Wilmington (DE) after playing perennial powers West Chester and Division I Delaware.

GBC as an athletics department had 43 student-athletes picked to the CACC Academic Honor Roll, saw 13 in each semester notch a 4.0 GPA for that period and had 65 percent of its student-athletes end with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. GBC also sports a 3.198 GPA among its student-athletes, higher than the College's GPA among non student-athletes.
