Justin Jump Named Baseball’s Winner of the CACC Top XVII Award

5/9/2024 12:00:00 AM

Senior pitcher Justin Jump (Wilmington, DE) received yet another honor from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in being named the league's winner of Baseball's Top XVII Award.

The Top XVII Award goes to the individual who has the highest GPA on one of the competing teams at the finals site of each CACC Championship, similar to the NCAA Elite 90 Award.  The conference's award is so named as the league sponsors 17 sports, along the lines of the NCAA sponsoring 90 sports.

This was presented Wednesday at the sport's annual awards banquet, also where Jump received his award in being named second team all-conference.  He was not Goldey-Beacom's only award winner as junior shortstop Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) was named CACC Player of the Year with junior infielder Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) and senior first baseman Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) also tabbed first team.

Jump is enjoying an incredibly solid year on the bump, giving the Lightning strong outings that led him to opening the season by winning his first four decisions.  Six times this season he tossed at least six innings and he has at least six strikeouts five times, including eight February 24 against Kutztown.

He is first in the league with six wins, fourth with 61 1/3 innings pitched and ninth with 57 strikeouts.

Jump is first in team history with 189 strikeouts, tied for second with 13 wins and third outright with 192 1/3 innings pitched.

Jump is the ninth Goldey-Beacom student-athlete to win this award, the first since Dianna Gatto won for Softball in 2020 and the first for the College's Baseball squad.

Goldey-Beacom (33-17, 15-9 CACC) last Friday in the first round opened its play in the CACC Tournament with a two-game sweep of Wilmington, putting it into championship weekend for a second straight season.  GBC on Thursday will face Post at 1:00 pm as part of the four-team, double-elimination tournament with the champion earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

GBC twice in its history has competed in the NCAA Tournament with the squad last season hosting a regional and this year was ranked as high as 22nd in the country by the NCBWA.  The team is fourth in the latest NCAA East Regional Rankings, the fourth straight year it has been part of this ranking.
