Volleyball Punches CACC Tournament Ticket With 3-1 Triumph at Caldwell

Goldey-Beacom clinched its third straight trip to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament with its third consecutive win, 3-1 (25-17, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16) at Caldwell in Caldwell, NJ.

Both teams were engaged in a first-set battle that was level at 16, before Goldey-Beacom ended things on a 9-1 run.  Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT) notched three kills in that set with fellow sophomore Gabi Fullwood (Powder Springs, GA) adding two for the Lightning, who closed with an astonishing 19 kills in the set to go with a .425 attack percentage.

The second set provided more drama with the Lightning in a 19-16 hole.  However, that changed with the visitors taking the last nine points for a two-set lead and Gingras again delivered with two kills.

Following a slight hiccup in set three, Goldey-Beacom closed things in the fourth.  The Lightning notched a .400 percentage in that time.  Senior Baylee Brin (Salina, KS) recorded three kills in that time with Gingras, Fullwood, junior Juliana Malena (Miami, FL) and senior Kloe Waymel (Mulhouse, France) getting two apiece.

Gingras closed with 16 kills and eight digs, Malena had 23 assists and 10 digs with sophomore Ashley Fru (Brandywine, MD) recording 22 and 11.  It was Malena's seventh double-double of the season and Fru's fourth.

Junior Brianna Anderson (Mesa, AZ) amassed 17 digs, Fullwood notched 11 kills and nine digs, sophomore Alana Scott (Gaithersburg, MD) had nine digs and Brin pounded eight kills.

This marks the first time Goldey-Beacom will play in a third straight conference tournament since going four consecutive years from 2003-06.

Marley Rudolph notched 14 kills and 10 digs with Grace Moliterno adding 15 assists and 10 digs for the Cougars.

Goldey-Beacom (16-6, 8-3 CACC) remains third in the CACC South Division one match behind Holy Family (9-2), which survived a five-set battle at Dominican (NY) that was 17-15 in the finale.  The top two teams in each of the two divisions host a quarterfinal match in the CACC Tournament.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday for Senior Night against Wilmington.  Match time is at 6:00 pm.
