Goldey-Beacom received a fierce battle from Dominican (NY) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play and won three close sets for a 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-22, 25-21) at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
GBC thrilled the fans on Homecoming and Lightning Family Weekend by forcing Dominican into seven errors in the first set that proved costly. The Lightning in the second were in a 20-17 hole before ending things on an 8-2 run, helped by three kills from junior Etta Harris (North East, MD).
The third set also was a tussle in which the Chargers were within 19-18. But the Lightning went on a 6-3 run for the victory as sophomore Gabi Fullwood (Powder Springs, GA) notched three kills.
Fullwood, the reigning CACC Rookie of the Year, again was outstanding with 12 kills, a .409 hitting percentage and five block assists. Junior Juliana Malena (Miami, FL) notched 15 assists and seven digs, sophomore Ashley Fru (Brandywine, MD) recorded nine and 13, Harris pounded eight kills and junior Brianna Anderson (Mesa, AZ) totaled 17 digs for GBC (13-3, 5-1 CACC), winners of three straight and nine of its last 10.
Jesenia Labrador and Audrey Sebring each amassed 10 kills for the Chargers (4-6, 2-3).
Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday will be home against Holy Family in a key CACC South Division match, which begins at 6:00 pm.
